Founded January 2015 in Leeds by leading beer writer Sam Parker, Whippet Brewing Company saw its first test batch served at fellow brewer Malcolm Bastow’s East vs West Festival in May of the same year. An official launch of four core beers was held at Whitelock’s Ale House in the city in early June, with the first batches being brewed at Burley Street Brewery.
Interim brewing is still being carried out at Burley Street Brewery (where the Whippet team also brew the ales of the same name for the Fox & Newt and the Packhorse, Woodhouse), with a 12 BBL kit to be installed at the brewery’s home site near Elland Road Football Stadium later in the year. An on-site 60 seat brewery tap will also be open by November.
2016 is proving to be a busy year for the 5-strong team.
With Sam at the helm the team also includes Head Brewer Ross Nicholson, a local brewer who trained under one of the city’s leading microbrewers and Dr Katie Marriott who joined the brewing team in January 2016. Ian Emms, an ex-publican, brings his industry experience to the role of Sales Manager and we are very pleased to have recently brought the Beersorter, John Thompson on board to help with sales on a freelance basis.
